Day 3 of school..a bit better

Wanted to give a quick update on school and the assimilation process.

Sadie
Day 1 was a good day (but long and tiring for Sadie and she missed mom and dad a little bit at school and had a crying spell there).  We love her teacher and she has friends already in there.  It also appears that reading has "clicked" for her as she is already reading books after 2 days better than she did before she went. She is still tired by the end of the day, but appears to be adjusting.  She didn't want to go to school this morning - but that felt more like a normal day in KC...just her being tired.

Dawson
Day 1 was a little tough when Dawson went into his classroom as it was a bit chaotic and he seemed a bit nervous.  By the end of day 1 he had done a good job of assimilating - making friends - playing football (soccer) with the boys and getting adjusted.  Yesterday he did swimming and had some sort of a "tryout" for the swim team and made it.  We still don't know what that means, but it is evidence of him getting engaged and doing well...he hadn't been on a swim team in a couple of years.

Chloe
Day 1 was tough for her - but not for the reasons we expected.   The assimilation process at the Senior School wasn't very good (non existent) and it seemed like she was given a cryptic schedule and pretty much left to find her way - no map - no buddy - no tour.  She did find her way through school/classes and made enough friends to survive, but it was way harder than it needed to be if the school would have handled things right.  We are proud of her making it through and in the end this taught her something about herself and making it on her own, but it was a lesson she didn't need to learn as these past few months have been traumatic enough.   We sent a clear message via email the first night to the head of her Year 9 and it sounded like things were better yesterday for her and continue to get better each day.

Past few days weren't easy on mom and pop either as we were able to protect them the best we could from a lot of the change, but these were steps they had to walk alone and we are proud of what they have accomplished to date.

Goods come tomorrow and we will be happy to get some more normalcy into our lives.

  1. Hey there,

We are so thankful that the kids had better day 2 than the first. They handled a lot to move, start school and just survive without their belongings from KC. It will be much better for them when they have their familiar things at hand. i.e....beds and chairs.

It is so good to hear from all and to see that all are surviving. Wish we were there to help sort and put things away.

We love you all and do take care of yourselves as it is super hard on ALL...hint hint Dave and Kelly also...LOL

Keep us posted we love the blog and look at it each morning and night to see how things are going.

    Love and Kisses to all,

    Mom and Pop
