A Day at Bolton Abbey

We had driven by Bolton Abbey when our friends Jason and Krista were in town but haven't had the chance to actually stop.  Today was the day, as Monday was a bank holiday in the UK.  Not sure what a Bank Holiday is over here...besides you get off work...the ATMs still worked...so it doesn't seem like they shutdown completely.  We are not complaining - we appreciated the long weekend.

Bolton Abbey, according to Wikipedia, was a monastery founded in 1120.  It sits in the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales...about 30 minutes from our home.  It is a wide spread out place with a river running through it - plenty of people were out in the water (a bit cold for us), enjoying a picnic, and getting a little sun.  We took a lunch with us and enjoyed a picnic by the river and then ventured around the grounds and eventually along a trail that took us up high above the Abbey.  We all had a great time and really appreciated the day.  We finished the day by having an ice cream at the American Diner that isn't too far away. Yum Yum.  Back to the grind tomorrow. Enjoy some pics from our journey.

  1. Woe, what a great place to go and enjoy. The water looked really clear and the stepping stones were really unique. Be honest now who pushed who off the stones first?????LOL

The tree climbing was actually pretty neat. It was a long way up what a great added benefit. The abbey itself was really something. Very regal looking even after all these years..

The pictures are always so good of the kids. We love them.

No matter what a bank day is it is just nice to be off from work when the kids are off from school.

    Love you all,

    Mom and Pop

  2. Wow that place looked interesting. What a beautiful day as well. That part of walking across the water on those stones was very exciting (Aidan said WE'RE Doing that!). Loved all of the tree climbing as well - wait to go Sadie! You are a great climber :).

Looked like a lovely day spent with each other. And the weather was BEAUTIFUL. Finally!

    Love you,
