EVEREST

We are sitting at the table tonight and Sadie said, "Do you know where Mt. Everest is?"  We responded with a few options and thoughts. She then said, "The girls and I were sitting at lunch today talking about where it was, many thought it was England because they think everything cool is in England, but I knew it wasn't." 

What 1st grader sits at the lunch table talking about where Mt. Everest is?  Our Sadie does.

 

ROYAL TREE

Sadie had to do a project charting out the family tree of the Royal family. I doubt she knows who Obama's children are, but she is fully aware of Queen Elizabeth and her lineage.

 

YORKSHIRE DICTIONARY

We have been collecting some of the words we have come to know and use here in the UK and thought it might be an interesting read for some of you.

A few of the words -with our definition...we could still have these wrong but it seems to make sense when we say them.

Bye	Good bye - It is usually said in a high pitched  way that sounds like you are talking to a small child
Chalk and Cheese	Apples and Oranges  - doesn't compare

BIRTHDAY BOY

Today we celebrate Dawson's 12th Birthday.  We enjoyed a day at a local park called Plumpton Rocks.  It is only 10 minutes from the house, and we hadn't been there yet.  It was an amazing place with rock formations all centered around a lake. Enjoy some pics of the day.

YORK RAIL MUSEUM

Thursday we spent an afternoon in York a town about 30 minutes away where they had the National Rail Museum.  We had not been there before and it was worth a visit. It is housed in an old maintenance terminal for the railroad where they had a turntable and a number of different engines and items related to the railroad in England.  We met a lady who was working at the front desk from Wisconsin and who had a sister who lived in Peculiar Missouri..small world.
