AMSTERDAM VISIT

We just got back yesterday from Amsterdam Netherlands/Holland where we spent a nice 4 days enjoying the city and surrounding areas.  Unfortunately we were too late to see the Tulip fields in full bloom but there was plenty to see despite this.

The highlights of our trip were visiting the Anne Frank museum - the actual home where she hid with her family for a couple of years before she was ultimately captured by the Germans.  Moving/Sad place to be - but a great opportunity for the kids to live some history.  We also ventured out of town to a traditional Dutch village called Zaanse Schans where we got to go inside a working windmill and see some traditional crafts.  We finished up the last day with a visit to the Van Gogh museum where there were 4 floors of his original paintings include his famous Sunflowers painting which Sadie has been studying about.

We spent the rest of our time walking the canals and streets of the area enjoying some famous crepes, waffles and getting a bit sick from the pungent smells coming from the "legal coffee shops".

Amsterdam is about an hour's flight from our home in the UK so it made for a quick journey.

Enjoy some highlights of the trip.

  1. Hmmm it seems a little more interesting than Holland Michigan where we just were! You guys seemed to have a great time and the weather looked beautiful. I can only imagine how delicious the waffles were...and the other foods. I want to visit Anne frank's house so a little jealous you guys got to first but glad you did. Kids and family look great.

Kel, what happened to your taste in shoes? Scary...I will take you shopping when you come visit :)

    Love you

  2. What a beautiful place. I loved the windmills. I didn't realize there was so much waterways there. All the colors were gorgeous. I bet that Sadie really enjoyed seeing Anne Franks house. It looks as if (maybe a little cool) but it was really nice weather. I loved the shoes and what is the history of the wooden shoes. I guess I will have to look that up. I love the beautiful carved wooded shoes. Beautiful. I am glad you all got to have a little time away from the grind of school, work and everything else.

I love all the pictures. Seems that we get to live vicariously through you all seeing the places you see.

    Love,

    Mom & Pop
