We just returned from a great two day trip to Wales. We hadn't been there yet and needed to make sure we got there ...now we can check Wales off the list. Just North Ireland to go in order to see all of the UK countries. We have been to the Republic of Ireland...but not Northern Ireland.
Wales is about a 3 hour drive from our home to the west. They use the English pound there, but do speak Welsh which is a very interesting language. The road signs are in English and Welsh.
We first drove to the city of Conwy to visit their castle and enjoy a festival they were having.
Dolwyddelan Castle
Conwy Castle
We then made it about an hour south to a slate mine that has been in operation since the 1800s. We took a tour of the slate mine - 900 feet below the surface of the earth.
After the mine tour, we enjoyed something called BOUNCE BELOW - which is located in an old slate mine where there are nets suspended above a large cavern where you can bounce, slide down net slides and climb back up the three level maze. It was unlike anything we have seen before and the kids enjoyed it. Sadie was a bit scared but was enjoying it by the end. Mom and Dad sat down most of the time : )

Made it to a seaside town for the night and dinner and turned in.
Today, we traveled to the isle of Angelsey and toured a famous lighthouse that has many bird species- including Puffins - that nest around there. We visited another castle on our way back home tonight.
Caernarfon Castle
South Stack Lighthouse Anglesey
Beaumaris Castle
Menai Suspension Bridge
Ynys Gored Goch
We needed a break from our routine and everyone really enjoyed Wales - it felt like we were literally in a different far off land from England...even though we were just a few hours away.

Amazing sights and what a cool bouncy thingy. I'm glad you were able to get out and have a great trip. I hope you're feeling better and better. We'll keep you in our prayers. Now, on to Northern Ireland!
ReplyDeleteOh Sadie you are so much more brave than me. I like to do lots of stuff but oh my goodness that is amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful place....Glad all felt better so they could blow some cobwebs out and get away from the house.
Love you all..
Mom & Pop
Wow are those pictures beautiful, especially the castles. I am so glad you guys got away for a mini excursion. The bounce below is something I literally just read about last week and thought it would be fun for the boys and it looked like you guys had a blast. The boys were just talking about how this time last year we were hanging with you guys prepping for hotel ween and Dawson's jelly roll :). Miss you guys a lot!

Excuse me...the boys corrected me. It was a sausage roll not a jelly roll. I stand corrected.
