WALE of a TIME

We just returned from a great two day trip to Wales.  We hadn't been there yet and needed to make sure we got there ...now we can check Wales off the list.  Just North Ireland to go in order to see all of the UK countries. We have been to the Republic of Ireland...but not Northern Ireland.

Wales is about a 3 hour drive from our home to the west.  They use the English pound there, but do speak Welsh which is a very interesting language.  The road signs are in English and Welsh.

We first drove to the city of Conwy to visit their castle and enjoy a festival they were having.

We then made it about an hour south to a slate mine that has been in operation since the 1800s.  We took a tour of the slate mine - 900 feet below the surface of the earth.

After the mine tour, we enjoyed something called BOUNCE BELOW - which is located in an old slate mine where there are nets suspended above a large cavern where you can bounce, slide down net slides and climb back up the three level maze.  It was unlike anything we have seen before and the kids enjoyed it. Sadie was a bit scared but was enjoying it by the end.  Mom and Dad sat down most of the time : )

Made it to a seaside town for the night and dinner and turned in.

Today, we traveled to the isle of Angelsey and toured a famous lighthouse that has many bird species- including Puffins - that nest around there.  We visited another castle on our way back home tonight.

We needed a break from our routine and everyone really enjoyed Wales - it felt like we were literally in a different far off land from England...even though we were just a few hours away.
